Our ideal client is a small business that has encountered some success and realizes the business has grown beyond what they can handle with the systems they currently have in place. By “systems,” we don’t mean software, but rather “soft systems” – i.e., how the work of the business gets done (marketing plan, strategic vision, etc.).
Most clients hire us because we do not approach the process in the typical consultant manner. We’re available to be in it for the long haul, for a two- to three- year process, not just for two months. We’re more interested in coaching them in how to run their business, than in doing the actual work for them. We systematically help them construct a foundation and the “walls”, so to speak, of their business, but it is really them who are cementing the floor and putting in the nails. If they build it, they will run it better.
Marketing is getting in front of the sorts of people who will most likely purchase from you, and helping them get to know you in a manner that is non-threatening. This will allow them to proceed to the next level of getting to like, know, and trust you. So, we are looking for clients who are passionate about what they are doing, who desire to rise above the level of mediocrity. If you’re not passionate about what you do, you won’t be passionate about the people. It might mean we help you to rekindle that passion. But if you’re going to clean floors for a living, be passionate about floors. If you’re going to run a dance studio, be passionate about dancing. If you’re passionate about what you do, you’ll raise yourself up to a level of being good at what you do, and you’ll be willing to do what it takes to keep raising the bar for yourself.
Our goal is to get our clients to “practice” enough so that when the inevitable business pressures come down the track, they’ll still carry on running their business in the right way, rather than reverting back to what measures came naturally to them before (which is not usually the best thing). Business is nothing more than delivering on the promises that you’ve made to your clients. As we once heard and now tell all our clients, “Underpromise and overdeliver.” Anybody can do that sporadically, but the only way you can do that consistently is to operate within systems that are structured to systematically overdeliver.
We offer the development of a marketing plan, strategic vision, personnel handbook, client newsletters, media kits, and more for your business. We also run client advisory boards and team advisory boards, a unique process where we interview select clients, or your employees, and produce an anonymous report detailing their honest feedback on how your business is run and how you can improve.
